Today I celebrate 8 years of being married to my best friend. I find it liberating to be able to be so close and intimate with someone who knows my faults, shortcomings, downfalls, and past and continue to love me. It might even be knowing those things brings us closer. He can make me experience a hundred different emotions. He can stand up to me and tell me when I am being selfish, foolish or simply ridiculous, although 99% of the time I know when I act like that and I just don't want to hear it. He is the most supportive one in the relationship that is for sure.
I get really frustrated with those marriages that end in divorce because I think marriage is a commitment ...not just always about being in love. But with him it is because I am in love that I want to stay committed and because of the commitment that I want to stay in love.
After 8 years, 1 baby with 1 on the way, and 2 moves for my career, the light we have experienced makes the shadows worth it.
"Adventure is out there"... and ours is still in the making, and I can't wait to see what happens...

Third time's a charm...
So here I am yet again attempting to make a habit out of blogging (it was actually on my pre 30 Goal List). Some things have changed since the last post. We are back in Tennessee now, house hunting, expecting another baby, and watching Luke turn into a "big boy" before our very eyes. Merry Christmas and stay tuned...

Fall happenings...so far!
So a lot has happened since the last post and I promise I will try to post more frequently. Luke had his 4 month check up and we got the go ahead to start food. He weighed 17 lbs and 25 1/4 inches long and of course, in true Shapton fashion, he was in the 90th percentile for everything. Trevor was so proud.
Sooo...Luke had his first taste of cereal.
And he LOVED it!!!
And he LOVED it!!!
He then had another first experience, courtesy of the Hoyt's...the jumparoo! He wasn't so sure about it at first and would just rock side to side but soon figured it out and now loves to jump.
Uncle Trevor and Aunt Kala came to visit and we went to Festival Acadiens for the cajun experience of Zydeco music and po boys.

This was seriously the best peach cobbler I have ever eaten...sorry Mom.
Although...not so much cajun...some decided to partake of the beverages offered at the festival.
It was super hot...good thing Luke isn't modest...love the rolls on that little boy!Hopefully, I will find time to post again soon. There are a lot of things coming up in the next few weeks. We are so excited about Luke's first Halloween and looking forward to visiting the pumpkin patch soon.

If at first you don't succeed...try, try, try again...
So...umm...yeah, my first attempt at blogging was pretty pitiful to say the least. However, I have been inspired lately to pick the hobby back up (thanks Emily).
So there have been big changes around here since my last post. Namely, we had a baby...Luke Trevor Shapton was born on June 3. He has been the most amazing adventure we have had to date. He is almost 4 months old now and his new accomplishment is this high pitched squeal. He is also learning to reach and grab objects that he wants...which almost always end up going in the mouth. These following pictures were taken recently while visiting in Tennessee.

So hopefully my new found zeal for blogging will continue...

Fall Happenings...thus far!
So...a lot has happened since the last post. Nevermind my goal of trying too post at least once a month, that obviously didn't happen. So...in one post I am going to try and summarize what has happened during the fall months in 2009.
We went to Tennessee in August to celebrate Trevor's brother, Jason, and his graduation from the Police Academy. It was great to see friends and family if only for a few days. Jason was the Vice President of his class and said the invocation and benediction.
Wade was his usual hilarious self. Trevor taught him how to play "which hand is it in" that he quickly caught on to and decided to use a booger as the treat he hid in his hands.

A few weeks later, Trevor and Kala came to Louisiana to visit us. We made the rounds at Lake Martin, Prejeans, Tabasco Factory, and drive thru daiquaris.

Then Trevor left for his month long hunting adventure in September. First stop was Colorado elk hunting with his dad and cousin Phillip. No elk...Next stop was in Montana with friend Joel and the Walthall family. No elk...Then he made his way to Michigan and got to spend a week with family there. No salmon...He helped move Grandpa Ralph into his new apartment and got to reconnect with Carm and Chuck.
In October, Amy and Emily came to Louisiana for a girls weekend. It started off great with sight seeing and shopping in New Orleans. Unfortunately Emily ended up getting sick and an ER visit was in order. Phenegan became her best friend for the rest of the weekend. I made the usually rounds with Amy. She got to see her first alligator and her first taste of gumbo.

So then Halloween came to the Fox Chase subdivision. It was absolutely crazy! We went over to the Hoyt's and ran out of candy about 1 1/2 hour. Best costumes were Publisher's Clearing House guy and winner and blind umpire!

"Lafayetta...wait...what am I trying to say"
So Trevor and Kala came to visit for a long weekend. During that time they got so see some of the finer things of southern Louisiana like gators, Cane's, drive thru daiquiris, and Blue Dog's unlimited mimosas.
But more importantly we had amazing conversations about life, God, future plans and relationships. All in all it was a great weekend and I hate to say that it will now be Thanksgiving before we get to spend time with each other again. Weekends like these really make me miss home and being close to family.

If you can't stand the heat...

So…with a new month, I thought I would start a new hobby…blogging. And while the experience is new and I have to admit I am feeling some kind of pressure to be witty and opinionated…that will probably not be the case for every post. There may be sometimes where I feel in rare form enough to be creative and funny but not so much for my first one. Today I am just going to talk about my first 4th of July experience in Louisiana. One word…HOT. And, I mean HOT, and not like HOT, I wish I had a fan HOT, I am talking HOT like, sitting on a blanket waiting for
fireworks to start and you feel the back of your shirt stating to soak through with sweat with sweat beads at your temples and dripping off the tip of your nose HOT. All the while, just waiting to oooh and aaah for 15 mintues at a pyromaniac’s vision of beauty.
